Clinical News

Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of  death in  female reproductive cancers, resulting in about 14,000 deaths annually. It is the most deadly of all gynecological cancer. Despite this, all there is to know about the devastating ailment isn't always readily available.  The professionals at Play Safe Clinic in Hallandale are here to inform you about a few facts you may not have known about ovarian cancer:

  • Every Woman is at Risk: Though there are steps we can take to decrease our risk, no woman is immune from developing ovarian cancer. The best way to combat this disease is education. Knowing your family history and relevant risk factors is heavily linked to proactive and potentially lifesaving care. Genetic testing and counseling are essential in the surveillance against ovarian cancer.  Play Safe Clinic offers both counseling and testing to high risk patients.
  • Ovulation is a Factor: Though it occurs naturally, how many times someone has ovulated in her lifetime is associated with our ovarian cancer likelihood. A Harvard-run study found the most dangerous and deadly kinds of ovarian cancer form at the ends of the Fallopian tubes, not the ovaries themselves. The study also claimed that breastfeeding, pregnancy, and birth control—things that halt ovulation—are linked to a lower ovarian cancer risk. Birth control reduces the risk of ovarian cancer up to 60%. Play Safe offers birth control counseling options.
  • There Are Symptoms: Fortunately, our body shows symptoms if and when we're affected by ovarian cancer—actually worsening over time. A few examples of ovarian cancer symptoms are loss of appetite, stomach pressure and bloating, pelvic pain, weight loss and lethargy.  Although in majority of the cases there are no symptoms.
